Cabaret and Regional Styles
from some of the top artists in the art!
The 2010 roster of instructors is the best yet, including Alexandra King, Colleena Shakti, Cris! Basimah, Janelle, Dr. Jaynie Aydin, Judeen, Lesa and Tahja.
The workshops will, as always focus on both current cabaret styles as well as regional styles of Middle Eastern dance which have contributed to the evolution of belly dance as we know it today. Please make your selections below.

Thursday, August 26th
Location: Judeen’s Middle Eastern Dance Studio

This evening will include a Henna Artist on site for those who wish to get henna's for the weekend! Also, fabulous shopping as always at Judeen's Studio! The Henna art is paid directly to the artist at the time of service. Prices vary depending on the art purchased.
(#1) 6:00 - 8:00 PM – “Tribal Dance” with Judeen
Ancient and modern movements from North Africa and the Middle East for belly dance.
(#2) 8:00 - 10:00 PM – “Zills and Rhythms” with Alexandra King
Hot combinations to a variety of rhythms while playing zills, including 2/4, 4/4 and 8/4 selections.

Friday, August 27 th

(#3) 10:00 – 12:00 PM – “Turkish Rom Basics and Beyond” with Dr. Jaynie Aydin
Jaynie's workshop will teach you all of the essentials of Turkish and Roman belly dance and prepare you to create your own improvisational or composed choreography. With the addition of a one hour video lecture, you will learn basis movement vocabulary, musical composition, rhythm and timing. This fun, flexible workshop will be exciting and informative to the beginner as well as the seasoned dancer.

(#4) 1:00 - 3:00 PM – “Sultry Taxsim for standing work” with Lesa
Lesa will teach movements and combinations that will make your dance sizzle and slink! Lesa is one of Santa Barbara's top dancer's. She is the quintessential belly dancer whose beauty and technical excellence put her in high demand!

(#6) 10:00 - 12:30 PM – “Sassy and Sexy Combinations” with Janelle
She is one of California's most beloved and admired dancers. Known for her stunning talent, exacting technique, passionate presentations and joyful personality, Janelle is a six-star, award-winning super-star of belly dance! In her workshop she will teach exciting blends of Egyptian-style belly dance including layering exercises and dance combinations. This workshop will knock your hip scarf off! Please bring a veil.

(#8) 3:45 - 6:00 PM – “Radjistani Fusion” with Colleena
Rajasthani Dance Contemporary Combinations from Tribal Roots! Rajasthan is a state in Western India rich with colorful folk dances. From the Khalbelia ‘Gypsy’ snake-charming dance to the delicate Ghoomar, Rajasthan’s folk dances are often borrowed from to create Bollywood’s exciting film dances. In this workshop we will use traditional movements in Rajasthani dance to create new combinations that can easily fuse into your Belly Dance. We will focus on a choreography as we break down the movements and discover new techniques for spins and hand positions. A large skirt is recommended for this workshop.
