To Audition for Seher...

Seher is a professional dance company whose mission is to preserve and promote traditional and avante-garde dances of the Middle East. While our ensemble draws mostly from the local Middle Eastern Dance class (Dance 80) at UCSB, we are always looking for new dancers, either male or female.

Requisites to audition are:

• Must be between the ages of 18 and 40
• Must be talented and physically fit
• Must be professionally trained including:
  • One year ballet training with grace, excellent posture & placement turn-out and good control.
  • One year of belly dance training, including 9/8, 6/8, bolero, balady; chiftitelli (including standing work and floorwork) and be proficient at zillwork while dancing
  • One year of training in the folk and classical dances of the Middle East, including: Turkey; Greece; Armenia; Persia; Uzbekistan; Lebanon; Egypt; Saudi Arabia. (In the event that one has not had this training, student dancers under the age of 21 may train in these styles on campus in Dance 80 with Ms. King)
• Must be a long-term resident of Santa Barbara, where the company is located
• Must be willing and able to come to all rehearsals (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
• Must be willing and able to purchase some costumes
